GAP AND STELLA MCCARTNEY TO LAUNCH KIDS & BABY COLLECTION

June 15, 2009
Collection Will Be Carried in Stores and Online in November 2009

SAN FRANCISCO – June 10, 2009 – GapKids ds and babyGap, two of the most recognized names in children’s apparel, announced today plans for a new collection created for Gap by Stella McCartney. Expected to launch in late 2009, the collection will be carried in select GapKids and babyGap stores in the United States and Canada, the UK, France and Ireland, and Japan, as well as online in the US.

“We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to build on successful past collaborations with a world class design talent like Stella,” said Marka Hansen, President of Gap brand. “I’m looking forward to offering our GapKids and BabyGap customers her unique interpretation of Gap’s casual American aesthetic. Her experience as a parent and designer are sure to delight both kids and parents alike.”

Stella McCartney comments, "For years now I’ve wanted to create a collection for kids, it’s something I’ve often been asked about. I believe that this one off collaboration will be a great way for customers to be able to participate in the Stella McCartney brand. I believe that kids clothing should be more accessibly priced, which is particularly important at the moment given the current climate. It’s really exciting for us to do a boys and girls collection for the first time."

Beatles 2009 Remasters – Box Set Pre-Order Links and Prices: As of yesterday, pre-order links and prices for the mono and stereo box sets have appeared among various vendors. At this early date, prices for the stereo set average $220 – $250 US, with prices for the mono set being somewhat higher, at $250 – $280 US. As September 9th approaches, competitive factors will, no doubt, cause price fluctuations among online retailers and ‘brick and mortar’ stores.

CD Review:John Lennon and the Plastic Ono Band Live in Toronto '69

June 15, 2009

up-PlasticOnoBand

By Nilan Perera
This DVD is actually pretty cool, but for all the wrong reasons. Trying to follow tight road bands fronted by badass icons Bo Diddley, Jerry Lee Lewis and the vision that is Little Richard is simply not advisable. The way the DVD is edited is to give us moments from the openers and then concentrate on the full set of Plastic Ono, featuring John and Yoko, accompanied by Eric Clapton, Klaus Voorman and Alan White. Considering that this band had never played together before the decision to feature old rock’n’roll tunes weighs heavily on the nostalgia bar band tip. There’s some medium cool stuff, like Lennon’s "Cold Turkey," but it’s mostly less than inspired. This is the case until suddenly it’s the ’90s and Yoko begins long ululating wails on one actual song and finishes the concert with a 15-minute modulated shriek accompanied by guitar/bass feedback and the occasional drum burst. It’s quite funny how this is the only standout moment, one that the audience of the time hated. Nostalgia certainly isn’t what it used to be. There’s also an interview with Yoko being cool, together and articulate in 1988. (Shout! Factory)
