Stax Records To Release 'Stax Does The Beatles'

stax.jpgStax Records (now a division of Concord Music Group) will release Stax Does The Beatles and Soulsville Sings Hitsville: Stax Sings The Songs of Motown Records on February 26. Stax, of course, was best known for creating its own songs — classics like “(Sittin’ On The) Dock of the Bay, ” “Knock On Wood” and “Respect Yourself.” But in the hands of a Stax artist, a Beatles or Motown song found a new Southern groove, often redefining what would seem improbable to improve upon.

Eat at the Beatles hotel with Heinz

heinz.jpgThis Beatles-themed offer from Heinz Foodservice comprises a three-course dinner for four at Liverpool’s Hard Days Night hotel.

As part of the offer, the quartet will go free on Cavern City Tours’ “Magical Mystery Tour”, visiting John, Paul, George and Ringo’s childhood homes and the places that inspired them.

Heinz Foodservice has created the offer following the launch of its branded table-top caddy, which houses Heinz Tomato Ketchup, HP Brown Sauce, English Mustard and Mayonnaise in squeezy opaque bottles.


Memorial plan for Beatles manager

epstein.jpgA memorial to the former manager of the Beatles could be created in Liverpool after councillors backed plans for a lasting tribute to him. Brian Epstein died in 1967, aged 32, from a sleeping pill overdose.

Plans for the tribute are still in the early stages, with no set idea for the memorial or location.

However, solicitor Rex Makin, who was a friend of Epstein, has slammed the plans saying he was a private person who would not have wanted a monument.

Beatlemania infects The Grammys

cirque-grammy.jpgBeatlemania will never die and the Recording Academy keeps kicking itself for not giving the Fab Four more trophies back in the day. (The band only received four when they were together and two of them were for “Sgt Pepper.”).
The casts of “The Beatles LOVE by Cirque du Soleil” and “Across the Universe” will provide the Beatle magic at this year’s telecast. Both projects are actually nominated for Grammys this year.
Feist, Alicia Keys and Brad Paisley will also perform.  Bette Midler, who will join Cirque in Vegas later this month as the replacement for Celine Dion, will be a   presenter.


Israel: No Apology for Beatles Snub

LONDON —  More than 40 years after it barred the iconic British band from playing there, Israel said it wants the surviving members of the Beatles to participate in a concert celebrating the country’s 60th birthday.

But the Israeli embassy in London denied a report that the Jewish state had apologized for its original refusal to let the Beatles perform in the country. The band had been booked to appear in 1965, but the government refused to grant the necessary permits on the ground that its music might corrupt the country’s morals.
