They dubbed it a match made in heaven: combining the familiar soundtrack of the Beatles backlist with the imaginative creativity of the high-end freakshow that is Cirque du Soleil. And they weren’t wrong.

The final product, Love, was the circus’s tribute to the Beatles and first appeared at its Las Vegas home base in 2006.

This is a surprisingly moving behind-the-scenes story of how the magical show came about, using the original Beatles recordings from the Abbey Road vaults and remixing them for the Cirque spectacular.

There are many poignant moments: the fact that they used the original Beatles producer George Martin and his son, Giles, to remix the tracks; the dialogue between the Beatles members during the original recordings that remind us all how they once really were all fab; and the heartfelt interviews with Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and the widows Olivia Harrison and Yoko Ono which reveal the yawning gap left by the absence of George and John.
